Raising kids is
tough. In part, that's because preparing them for the same world that
we're trying to protect them from is a difficult assignment. We attempt
to meet the challenge by showering them with constructive toys and
signing them up for activities like piano lessons, karate and after-school
soccer.
But kids still need to engage in simple play - without structure,
strict preset rules, and stifling boundaries. There is no better place
for this than your own yard.
Of course, there is a wide variety of playground equipment with slides,
swings, bars and ropes. Make sure you choose equipment that doesn't
require too much maintenance. The more you spend, the more important
it is to make sure the equipment is compatible with the changing desires
and needs of children as they progress from toddlers to teenagers.
Think ahead: With more elaborate systems you can add and change activities
as the children grow. Individual pieces such as swings and hardware
can be ordered to customize your own play system.
